Where are my photos?

Unfortunately, even though we may want to . . . we can't do it all.  Like many women, I occasionally suffer from the "wonder woman" complex.  I give myself too many things to do in too little time.  While it's true, I am able to accomplish many things, oftentimes if you ask me what I've been up to, I may say that I've been incredibly busy but I can' really remark about what I've done.  In other words, I haven't done anything remarkable.  Can you relate?

This prompts me to ask . . . Are we all just spinning our wheels?  Or are we all simply spinning out of control in this age of easy information, "convenience" and technology?

A couple of facts . . .

A daily edition of The New York Times contains more information than an American living in the late 1800's would have been exposed to in their entire lifetime.

We have more "convenience" than any humans have ever had, yet we have less "time".  (Can you imagine having the time to make your own soap, candles, bread, milk the cows, make your own clothes or gather eggs for your breakfast . . . no way!)

I wonder, even with all that we have, has it cost us an element of quality & simplicity that used to exist in our society.  My grandmother had wonderful photos of her and my grandfather and their friends / family having cookouts in the mountains, playing on the beach and having get-togethers at each other's homes.  I didn't see any photographs of them watching TV, playing video games or googeling.  Of course these photos were taken before any of these modern conveniences existed.  And even though times were tough, they look like they were having a great life in these photos.

I compare my own life to these photographic moments and wonder . . . am I just not taking enough pictures?  Or maybe it's because we have so much, that an evening in the mountains with our friends and family doesn't rate a place on the "let's get a picture of this" list?  Is our time in front of the tube (be it TV or Computer monitor . . . or now our cell phones) costing us something more valuable and stimulating?  Or is it simply that technology has changed the way we relate to others and society in general.

I propose that we "ground" our families from TV for a week (video games too) and see what happens next.  Who knows, maybe we'll find something better to do, maybe we'll find each other.

Live, love and bee happy,

Sherry

P.S. Don't forget to take photos . . . then when your kids are all grown up, they can show them to their families and say . . . "when I was a kid . . ."
