Almost everyone these days is involved to varying degrees with scrap booking.  What a loving and meaningful activity, preserving memories and images of and for those we love.  Many people think of jewelry making in a similar way.

I’ve been involved in jewelry making of one sort or another for most of my life.  I’ve had the pleasure of sharing this joyous and rewarding craft with my friends, sister, nieces, aunts and mother.  Even though I am perfectly capable of making my own jewelry, I cherish the gift of jewelry made by those I love.  When I wear these wonderful gifts, I think about the hands and mind of the one that created it and remember the love and relationship that we share.   You may have experienced this yourself:  Someone compliments you on your necklace and the first thing that pops into your head is:  “thanks, my sister made this for me”. 

I have several pieces of jewelry that were part of my grandmothers or mothers collection.  Some are mere costume jewelry.  However, regardless of the monetary value of these pieces, they are priceless and irreplaceable to me. 

When you give the gift of your own hand made jewelry, you are not just giving a gift, you are giving a memory, a piece of yourself, a statement of your style, creativity, thoughtfulness and love that will be present whenever your gift is worn.  Now that’s just plain good karma all around.
